Winewalkers: Day 6 Tui to Redondela (30 km) Sept 8th

Leaving the hotel just after 8 this morning and we could really see difference the one hour time difference makes - it had only just gotten light out. It was looking like it was going to be a beautiful sunny day.

We chose an alternative route around the industrial town of Porrino to avoid 7 km of roads, traffic and industry. There is an ongoing battle between the group that calls itself "Friends of the Camino" who try to find to find a better and more peaceful alternative and the irate business owners who want to divert pilgrims through their industrial town. We actually saw one older gentleman out on the trail with a bucket of black paint painting over the yellow arrows that diverted pilgrims away from his business. He tried to talk us out of using the alternative path.

At one time we were part of a goup of 22 pilgrims, as this section of Camino just inside the Spanish border, is popular with the Spanish.

It was time for tapas and beer at the end of a long day. Although some of our group suffered from blisters and intestinal problems they soldiered on and we regrouped at our hotel in time to watch the end of the Vuelta (Tour of Spain).
