April 26, 2016 - Via Francigena Day 10

Rocca d'Orcia to Radicofani (24 km)

In the morning Cheryl re-bandaged her foot, and in a shameless attempt to garner some of the sympathy Cheryl has been receiving, I stubbed my toe on the lip of the bathroom doorway in the night, stifled the curse that came to my lips and went back to bed.  The next morning we were trying to figure out where all the blood came from on the bathroom floor - it looked like two animals had fought to the death in there...then I remembered my toe.  So now with both of us sporting bandages on our feet we set out....

A beautiful morning in Rocca d'Orcia, although a chilly 4 degrees centigrade.
Leaving Rocca d'Orcia in the morning
We ate our meagre breakfast in the beautiful, but unheated restaurant, and with both of us sporting bandaged toes, we set out for Radicofani.  Having walked to Ripa the previous day takes a big bite out of the normal 32 km San Quirico to Radicofani walk and makes it a more manageable stage.

This is a beautiful stage.  The scenery is stunning and the weather turned in our favour.  The first 11 km is through gently rolling tuscan hills and then with 13 km to go we crossed a stream and from then on it was a long gradual uphill, that got steeper and steeper all the way to Radicofani, whose towers you can see long before you arrive!

A welcome sign!

Radicofani looms ahead
We made it to Radicofani in 7 and a half hours, including breaks and some rebandaging.  Cheryl seems to be managing her blisters and they are improving daily, maybe thanks to all the well wishers and the advice from fellow posters on the facebook group!

Rewards at the end of the day!
