May 6, 2016 - Via Francigena Day 18

Sutri to Campagnano di Roma (24 km)

Leaving Sutri, we had a moment of indecision at a junction, when this lady appeared beside us and set us on the right course, giving us a hand drawn map (that she had several copies of in various languages).
A helpful guide appears
This was our warmest day so far, a day of quiet country lanes, once we got past dodging traffic on the narrow pavement roadway for the first 3.5 km.

The church of San Giuseppe in Monterosi
We arrived in the town of Monterosi, looking for a likely place for a lunch break.  At the Church of San Giuseppe in the middle of the town there is a war memorial structure in front of the church depicting scenes in bas-relief of some of the destruction that the town faced during World War II.

Continuing through the town we walked past our turnoff (intentionally) still looking for that elusive cafe along the main street, which we finally found, The Bar Pirana

At the Bar Pirana in Monterosi this cute couple (pictured below) made us a sensational looking cappuccino!

Continuing on the road to Campagnano di Roma

A rare site - other pilgrims appear on the Francigena!

This gelateria across from our hotel in Campagnano di Roma provided Cheryl with the best gelato she had had so far on our walk!

A toast of beer to gelato at the end of the day!
